This series of paintings is a formal exercise in line, color and geometry. The tape is applied to the panels in layers and in some cases select portions are removed. The frames for each piece are also handmade out of select varieties of hardwoods.
Lewis Mauk is a Eugene, Oregon based artist. He received an MFA from Cal-Arts in 2000. Mauk works in photography, printmaking, painting and design. He draws much of his inspiration from the light and beauty of the natural world and enjoys experimenting with unusual processes and materials.
